Current Issue
It has been some time since the VCFS support group in Auckland has met. A number of the key roles are still with founding members of the Auckland support group. It would be good to get some new blood into the support group to take on some responsibilities for running the group and keeping meetings going on a semi regular basis.
Nanci Campion and I (Sonia Brown) are two of the founding members and our VCFS offspring are now in their early twenties, so our needs for support have changed. It would be great to see some younger parents with younger VCFS children involved in running the group.
Obviously, those of us with adult VCFS members are still happy to be involved and share our experiences (which are wide and varied!!!). Remember there are no costs involved with belonging, just a bit of time and coming along to support meetings to share and support each other!
Please contact either
Melissa Richardson - Secretary of the group or
Sonia Brown - Webmaster
Look forward to some responses!

Other Issues
Current issue of concern to the group is extra help for VCFS children in the education system. Depending on your child's symptoms it may be difficult to secure funding for teacher aide or assistance of other forms. However it is worth approaching your education provider and finding out who is the Special Needs Coordinator and pursuing this with vigour!
There are ways that schools/kindergartens etc. can help, even if it is dovetailing your child in with other children getting assistance.
VCFS kids tend to mask their issues by being good kids in class, therefore teachers often think parents are overreacting and try and dismiss your concerns or requests. Do not be foiled by this - pursue, pursue, pursue. You are your child's champion in this!
